You will be collected by your friendly English Speaking local guide from your hotel or guesthouse shortly before 8am who will take you via tuk tuk to the riverside to board your boat for the day, the unique Mekong Tara Prince. Once owned by the Prince himself, our Mekong Tara Prince boat is the perfect way to escape the city. This beautiful boat has been refurbished to offer comfort and style to ensure a perfect journey. It has a unique double haul which enables us to navigate to areas other river boats cannot especially being able to get up close to the scenery.
We Travel down the Tonle Sap River, passing stunning scenery as Phnom Penh fades into the background as you relax with the peace and quiet of the countryside taking in the views of the landscape. You will see Cambodians at work as we sail by farms, fishermen, floating villages and islands. The Cruise to the Island takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
Arriving at the peaceful Island your guide will walk you to the beautiful pagoda, Wat Chong Koh situated on the island filled with colorful statues and stunning architecture.
From there you will get to visit one of the silk weavers where you will get to understand how they make silk, from seeing the silk worm eggs, to learning about the cycle and seeing the process of how it gets turned into silk ready for products. The traditional Khmer silk weaving has existed for centuries with fine silk fibers woven into beautiful silk cloth and Silk Island is the best place to experience this in Cambodia. You will be able to see the Silks being woven and speak to the weavers via your guide to learn about this tradition. You will also have the opportunity if you want, to buy some of the hand-made silk produce including table cloths, scarves and covers at cheaper prices than in the City.
From there you return to the boat where you will have a freshly prepared Khmer BBQ meal with some complimentary drinks all included in the price. The tour includes two complimentary drinks but there is also a fully stocked bar selling soft drinks, beers, wine and spirits available at cheaper than bar prices. You can enjoy this and relax having enjoyed an opportunity to see the real rural Cambodia and its traditional industries, as we slowly leave the peace and quiet behind to return to Phnom Penh. Once we arrive in Phnom Penh your guide will take you back to your hotel or guesthouse or, if you wish, you can be dropped at another central Phnom Penh location.
