Travel to and from Phnom Penh
There are a number of ways of getting to and from Phnom Penh. Coming from Siem Reap or Vietnam, the most common way to get to Phnom Penh is by bus. Another option from Siem Reap is by boat. Most guesthouses or hotels are able to arrange bus or boat transportation for you. If not, there are numerous tour agencies that can offer the service for competitive prices. And of course, as Phnom Penh is the capital and Cambodia's largest city, there are numerous options to arrive by air. Get here and get travelling!
Pochengtong International Airport is about 7 km from the centre of Phnom Penh. Outside the terminal building you will find plenty of drivers willing to take you to the hotel or guesthouse of your choice. Note that there is a $20 departure tax on international flights out of Cambodia and a $4 departure tax for domestic flights within Cambodia.
Official taxis to downtown Phnom Penh should cost US$7; unofficial taxis are not permitted to wait at the terminal. A motorcycle taxi (moto) usually costs about US$1-$1.50, although you may have to bargain to get this price. The journey into town normally takes less than 30 minutes. Travel around Phnom Penh
Your accommodation in Phnom Penh can most often arrange for a car and driver for touring around the city and outside of it. Car hire is about $25 per day if staying within the city. You can also rent a motorbike ($3-$7/day) to drive yourself around Phnom Penh but be sure you are comfortable with the traffic and operating the bike and watch out for theft.
There are not as many taxis available as other cities in the region so you may have to use other modes of transport.
